summertime [original]

A blade of grass was tickling his nose, but he couldn’t quite summon the energy to do anything about it. The sun was too warm and bright to let him move, leeching him of motivation and the world around him of color.

He opened one eye at the sound of approaching footsteps, and was rewarded by the sight of a grubby foot.

“Looking a bit pink around the edges, mate – might want to do something about it.” Lisa was probably right, but he shut his eye again and ignored her. The heavy perfection of the afternoon was worth a sunburned back.
